Mid-Year Mileage Reimbursement Increase IR-2008-82, June 23, 2008         Downloadable Audio File:  Mileage Rates WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today announced an increase in the optional standard mileage rates for the final six months of 2008. The Business Case for Travel Time Since moving to southern California I have found a practice that I haven't seen previously, especially in large metropolitan areas. It takes on average at least 1 hour to get to an assignment in the Los Angeles area; mainly due to traffic and congestion. According to the US Census Bureau the average commute for the LA area is 30 minutes. I have yet to see any interpreting agencies pay travel time (even if it's above a reasonable commute) or mileage.
