New Braunfels agrees to hire sign language translators for police force The city of New Braunfels has settled a case by agreeing to pay a deaf woman $75,000 and hire sign language interpreters for its police force. On Sept. 23, 2004, Maria Salinas, who communicates via American Sign Language (ASL), found her fiance motionless at her home. It was later determined that he was dead. Hospital Agrees to Provide Interpreters CONCORD – Several people who complained about how Concord Hospital handles deaf and hard-of-hearing patients will receive $100,000 from the hospital, the U.S. Attorney for New Hampshire announced yesterday.As part of a settlement between the U.S. Attorney and Concord Hospital, the hospital agreed to establish a program for effective communication for people who are deaf and hard of hearing.
